Pricing & Quotes
How much does a long distance move cost?
Long distance moving costs are driven by two factors: volume (cubic feet of belongings) and distance (miles). A 1-bedroom move of around 1,200 miles typically starts around $1,400. A 2-bedroom move of the same distance starts around $2,300. A 3-bedroom cross-country move can range from $4,000 to $6,500. The most accurate way to get your price is to use our live inventory calculator — it gives you a real binding price based on your actual items and destination, not a rough estimate.
What is a binding moving estimate and why does it matter?
A binding estimate is a fixed price the mover must honor — it cannot increase at delivery as long as your inventory doesn't change. This is the only type of estimate that truly protects you. Non-binding estimates are essentially guesses that can be significantly higher by the time the truck arrives. We only provide binding quotes. Read more in our guide: What Is a Binding Moving Estimate?
What's included in your price? Are there hidden fees?
Our binding price includes loading, transport, fuel surcharge, standard cargo protection, and unloading at your destination. Tolls and taxes are included. There are no delivery fees, no stair charges, no fuel surprises. If you add packing service, that's quoted separately upfront — not revealed at the truck. The price on your contract is the price you pay.
How is cubic footage calculated?
Each item in your inventory has a standard cubic footage value based on its size. Our live calculator adds these up automatically as you add items. The total cubic footage, combined with your distance, determines your rate. We apply a 300 cu ft minimum for pricing — so even the smallest moves are priced fairly for the truck space they require.
Does moving in peak season cost more?
Yes. Moving between June and August (summer) costs more due to demand — typically 15–25% higher than off-peak rates. Weekends also carry a slight premium. If you have flexibility, moving on a weekday in fall, winter, or early spring will give you the lowest rate. Our calculator automatically shows you if a peak surcharge applies to your selected date.
How much is the deposit and when is the rest due?
The deposit is due at booking to reserve your date. The remaining balance is due at delivery, before the truck is unloaded. The exact deposit amount is shown in your quote. We accept major payment methods — our specialist will confirm details when they call to finalize your booking.
Timing & Scheduling
How far in advance should I book a long distance mover?
For summer moves (June–August), book 6–8 weeks in advance — popular dates fill up fast. For fall, winter, and spring moves, 3–4 weeks is typically sufficient. The earlier you book, the more flexibility you have on pickup dates. Last-minute moves are possible but may have limited availability and carry a premium.
How long does a long distance move take from pickup to delivery?
Delivery time depends on distance. Moves under 500 miles typically deliver in 1–3 days. Moves of 1,000–1,500 miles typically take 3–5 days. Cross-country moves of 2,500+ miles take 5–8 days. You'll receive a delivery window when your move is booked — our dispatch team calls 24–48 hours before arrival with a more precise time frame.
What is FADD and how does it work?
FADD stands for First Available Delivery Date — the earliest date you're ready to receive your belongings at your destination. It is not your guaranteed delivery date. It tells us "don't arrive before this date." If you're ready for delivery right after pickup, write ASAP or the next day. Your load is placed on the manifest for the next truck heading your direction on or after your FADD. Read the full explanation in our guide: What to Expect on Moving Pickup Day.
Can I change my pickup date after booking?
Date changes are possible with sufficient notice, subject to availability. Contact us as soon as you know your plans have changed. Changes made close to your scheduled pickup date may have limitations. This is also why we always advise against booking flights or appointments that can't be changed during your pickup window.
What if I'm not ready to receive delivery on my FADD?
If your destination isn't ready by your FADD, we can arrange storage in transit. Your belongings stay in the truck or a secure facility until you're ready. Storage fees apply after the initial period covered in your contract. Contact us as soon as you know there may be a delay so we can make arrangements.
Packing
Do you offer packing services? What's included?
Yes — our Platinum Full Pack service includes everything: all boxes (every size), mattress bags, packing tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, and professional labor. You don't buy a single supply. Pricing is $1.50/cu ft for loads under 600 cu ft, and $1.00/cu ft for 600 cu ft or more. See full details on our packing services page.
What if I want to pack some things myself and have you pack the rest?
No problem — partial packing is available. Many customers pack personal items, documents, and valuables themselves and let our crew handle furniture, kitchen items, and the rest. Just let us know what you want packed when you confirm your booking.
What can't go on the moving truck?
Hazardous materials (gasoline, propane, paint, aerosols, pool chemicals), perishable food, plants, and pets cannot be transported on the truck. Personal valuables like jewelry, cash, passports, and medications should travel with you. See the full list in our guide: Items Not Allowed on Moving Trucks.
Does the crew disassemble and reassemble furniture?
Yes — basic furniture disassembly and reassembly (bed frames, dining tables, basic shelving) is included. Items fixed to walls or ceilings — ceiling fans, wall-mounted TVs, chandeliers, washers and dryers connected to plumbing — must be disconnected and removed by the customer before the crew arrives. Call us if you have questions about specific items.
Do I need to have everything packed before the crew arrives?
If you're self-packing, yes — all boxes should be sealed and labeled before the crew arrives. Totes need lids secured. No trash bags. If you've booked our Platinum Full Pack service, the crew will do all packing — you just need to have items accessible and organized.
Pickup Day
How will I know when the crew is arriving?
Our customer support team will contact you 24–72 hours before your scheduled pickup with a specific arrival time window. Make sure your phone is on and fully charged during your pickup window. If you have additional contacts (spouse, family member) who should also be reachable, call or email us to add them to your account.
What is a Bill of Lading?
The Bill of Lading is the legal contract for your move. The foreman will present it before loading begins. It lists your inventory, the agreed price, pickup and delivery details, and your rights as a customer. Read it carefully before signing — it's the document that protects you. Keep your copy; you'll need it at delivery.
Should I be present during loading?
Yes — you or a trusted representative should be present throughout loading. You'll need to sign the Bill of Lading, answer any questions about specific items, and do a final walkthrough before the truck leaves to confirm nothing was left behind.
Are the movers licensed and insured?
Yes — all our crews are certified, bonded, and insured. We hold active USDOT authority and are FMCSA compliant. You can verify our authority at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov. Every move includes standard cargo protection on your belongings.
Delivery
How will I know when my delivery is coming?
The same way as pickup — our dispatch team will contact you 24–48 hours before delivery with a confirmed arrival window. Make sure your phone is on and someone is available to receive the delivery at your destination address.
What if something is damaged at delivery?
Inspect all items as they're unloaded. Note any damage on the Bill of Lading before the crew leaves — this is important for any claims. All moves include standard cargo protection. Contact us immediately if you discover damage and we'll guide you through the claims process.
Will the movers place furniture in the rooms I want?
Yes — our crew will place furniture in the rooms you designate. Having a clear plan before the truck arrives makes this go smoothly. Label rooms if it helps, or simply direct the crew as they unload.
What if my new home isn't ready on my delivery date?
Contact us as early as possible if your destination isn't going to be ready. We can arrange storage in transit. The sooner you let us know, the more options we have. Last-minute delivery changes are harder to accommodate but we'll do our best.
Cargo Protection
What cargo protection is included with my move?
Every move includes standard cargo protection as required by federal regulations. This covers your belongings during transport. Coverage details are outlined in your Bill of Lading. For items of exceptional value, we recommend discussing additional options when you speak with your specialist.
Is there a difference in protection for professionally packed vs self-packed items?
Items packed by our crew are covered under the full protection. For self-packed boxes, coverage may be limited if damage is due to improper packing rather than carrier negligence. This is one reason professional packing is a worthwhile investment for fragile or high-value items.
What items should I not put on the truck for protection reasons?
Irreplaceable personal items — jewelry, cash, family photographs, important documents, prescription medications, and passports — should travel with you personally. These items have sentimental or legal value that no carrier protection can fully replace. See our complete guide: Items Not Allowed on Moving Trucks.
Local Moving
Do you do local moves in South Florida?
Yes — we serve Martin County, Palm Beach County, and St. Lucie County for local moves. That includes Palm City, Stuart, Jupiter, Port St. Lucie, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and all surrounding communities. See our local moving page for details.
Do you charge by the hour for local moves?
No — we price local moves the same way as long distance: flat rate based on cubic footage. You get a binding price before we start, so there are no hourly billing surprises if the move takes longer than expected.
Can you do same-day local moves?
Often yes, depending on availability. Call us at (312) 280-5046 and we'll tell you immediately if we can accommodate your timeline. Last-minute local moves are something we're built to handle.
Do you handle COI and building move-in requirements?
Yes — we handle certificates of insurance (COI), elevator reservations, move-in window restrictions, and loading dock coordination regularly. Let us know your building's requirements when you book and we'll take care of it.
